The stars were out at the Chaplain Recognition Reception held on Friday, May 7, at the MetroHealth Medical Center. The theme for the evening, “Caring Stars,” represented our appreciation for the chaplains who are stars in their caring ministries. Chaplains celebrating significant ordination anniversaries were recognized during the program.
Keynote speaker, Dr. Richard Fratianne, MD, FACS, Director Emeritus of the MetroHealth Burn Unit, spoke passionately about his work and the role of chaplains in providing hope and healing to patients recovering from burns. From the inception of the unit, he began working with chaplains to provide spiritual care resources to address the holistic needs of patients. The goal is to promote not just physical healing but the healing of mind and spirit. Dr. Fratianne underscored the need for this healing in the burn unit where many patients must re-enter their lives outside of the hospital with not only having endured a life-changing injury but with visible physical scars as well.
Held in the Rammelkamp Atrium, guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and tasty desserts. The chaplain recognition event has been established to celebrate the ministry of LCS chaplains and to offer a venue for supporters to demonstrate their appreciation for the work of chaplains ministering to patients, families and staff in need of spiritual healing.
